Booking your surgery generally involves the completion of a hospital booking form, consent form and if applicable, a quote. These are usually completed in the rooms.
Depending on what type of surgery you are having and your co-existing medical conditions, Dr Chia may also arrange certain pre-operative tests and/or arrange a review by other specialists. You may also be required to attend a Pre-Admission Clinic.

The hospital will also inform you of your admission time and fasting time (generally at least 6 hours before your surgery). Detailed pre-operative instructions for hip and knee replacements can be found at the links above.
In general terms, it is important to keep yourself and your skin healthy before your surgery. Blood thinning medication should be discussed with Dr Chia and generally stopped a week before surgery. These include anticoagulants, aspirin containing compounds, anti-inflammatory medications and some natural therapy preparations. For examples of medications in these categories, please view the Pre-Op Instruction PDF files above.
You should ensure you have arranged an adequate amount of time off work and also someone to care for you after your surgery. If any doubts exist about the above, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 1800 553 335.
